Marry sherry free essay sample

In Mary Sherry’s essay In Praise of the F Word she describes how she feels that students are being cheated by schools, not learning material and being passed on. She calls the diplomas that some kids get meaningless and also goes as far to say that these graduates are semiliterate. Sherry’s solution to the problem as she sees it is to use flunking students as a general policy, or at least threatening to flunk them to motivate them. She feels that the students who make it to educational- repair shops or adult-literacy programs are fortunate. It is here in these educational repair shops that Sherry states these students discover that they have been cheated by the educational system. I do not think that Sherry is fair in making these statements. She did not present enough evidence to me to get me to buy into her arguments. There are several concerns with this essay that make her views unacceptable. We will write a custom essay sample on Marry sherry or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page My first problem with this Essay is that Sherry teaches an adult-literacy program. From that viewpoint she does have some firsthand knowledge about the population of people in need of basic grammar and writing skills, but it also makes her bias. She states that â€Å"Tens of Thousands of eighteen-year-olds will graduate this year and be handed meaningless diplomas. † This statement raises many questions for me and Sherry was not effective in convincing me of her views expressed. I feel like this statement was made to make her point seem more reasonable. I would like to know what percentage overall is that number. I do not feel like she took into consideration that many of these students may have learning and or developmental disabilities. How many of these students needed extra help and the schools in their district lacked the resources to appropriately help them? Were these tens of thousands of students really cheated or did the teachers and schools do the best they could to teach these students with the resources they had. Teachers are already overworked and underpaid and now Sherry is basically saying they are cheats. If the students were cheated that is saying that the teachers are cheaters. The definition of cheater is to defraud, swindle, deceive, influence by fraud, to elude and to deprive something expected. This to me is very harsh and shines a bad light on teachers who dedicate their lives to teaching. I found that her one experience with her son who was threatened by a teacher to be flunked does not prove that flunking is a positive tool. Yes it worked for him, his mother was an English teacher. How many of the other tens of thousands that Sherry speaks of had this same advantage? I do agree with Sherry’s viewpoint that teachers have to get students attention in order for them to concentrate. In that one circumstance, with her son, threatening to flunk him worked. In that case I see that her son was cheating himself, not the teacher or the educational system being the cheater. Sherry does admit that this one example, her son, does not make the case. Once again I am left feeling like there is not enough evidence presented to get me to jump on the bandwagon and agree that the teachers of these tens of thousands of students are† cheats†. Sherry goes on to speak about passing students who have not mastered work. â€Å"Passing students who have not mastered the work cheats them and the employers who expect graduates to have basic skills. We excuse this dishonest behavior by saying kids can’t learn if they come from terrible environments. † So now from Sherry’s viewpoint the overworked, underpaid teachers are not only cheating these students, they are cheating employers that hire them. This is very unreasonable. Sherry’s views might be more acceptable to me if she held the student more accountable. A great teacher should not be labeled a â€Å"cheat† because they have limited resources or students with very low academic standards for themselves. Flunking as a regular policy may work in some cases but as a fix all for all students, I disagree. It worked in the case of her son and kudos to them. Many students don’t have Published English teachers to help and guide them. Not all students have support of their parents and their opportunity to succeed or fail rests purely on their shoulders.

Essay on Indian Religion Essay Example

Essay on Indian Religion Essay Example Essay on Indian Religion Essay Essay on Indian Religion Essay India as a country has been bestowed with several nomenclatures. Right from unity in diversity to birthplace of Hinduism and Sanskrit, the land has always been admired and revered for its rich cultural legacy and variety that it offers. India is a story, a legend, folklore and an anecdote in itself. It needs no introduction, no specific mention. It has continued to thrive for centuries and there are bright chances of it being the next super power. The country has always nourished numerous cultures, traditions and religions. All the major religions thrive in India and none of them have ever felt insecure or unprotected. That’s the beauty of the land. Go to any part of rich India and you will find numerous temple and shrines and all of them contain their own unique stories. We have always believed in beautiful and fascinating description of Indian Gods and Goddesses. Many stories have been told and retold in different fashions about how particular God originated in a particular place. All the descriptions of deities are believable and they convey just one message of Good winning over the evil. Gods in Indian religion have always fought monsters and even taken human forms to conquer evils in convincing manner. Right from north India to southern and western states, everywhere one can find plenty of amazing tales about our religion and sustenance over the centuries. The essence remains the same, the versions differ. Indian mythology has always been popular among masses. Its effect can be seen from different religious functions and tales told to the kids by their grandma. The virtues have always been exemplified by the conduct of the Gods. Many present day symbols have been born from our mythology and religious beliefs. For example, Om or Swastika or Trishul etc have always been revered. Religious beliefs are in tune with our traditional way of living and we as staunch believers still believe in following the rules and customs. When you hear of stories about our mythological characters like Ram, Sita, Hanuman, Ravana, Ganesha, Krishna and Bhima etc you get to know about what the essence of India is made of. These characters are now being used in animation movies that will be further helpful in making new generation aware of India’s famous religions and mythology. Religion and mythology is no less than precious treasure that must be respected and preserved. India is a story in itself. There have been civilizations and archaeological facts that are constantly being researched about the birth place of Hindu Gods and Goddesses. Though many times there are fake inventions, there seems a lot of history in the shrines and temples in India. Each depiction of God and villains seems appropriate with the truth winning over the evil. Each time and place has the new emergence of a Hindu God who takes care of the three worlds and slays the evil. A swastika or an Om is a revered sign and mentioned as prosperity. There are many symbols like the Trishul or the Trident which is not displayed everywhere as it is considered aggressive. It is customary to smear ash or sandalwood powder in the forehead as it cools the mind. These are beliefs turned to tradition and most of us follow the rules and codes. The latest generation is quite inquisitive about facts yet totally appreciates the quests of Lord Rama, the slaying of the ten headed Ravana, the piousness of Sita and the loyalty of Hanuman. Animation flicks are being created showing characters like Gathotkach the son of Bhima, Hanuman and Ganesha. Though these are kid specials, this would be the best way to teach them about Gods and religion. Dashavatar is a wonderful combination of story and the magnanimous nature of Lord Vishnu. Each avatar or creation has a set nature and character. It is mind blowing to see the story narration and is well received by the all of us. Our art and culture have direct relation with the mythology. The Shravan month is a holy time where people get religiously and maintain fasting. This is also the time for the beginning of all festivals. Magic or splendor is what we see at the Ganesh Chaturthi festival in India. The Durga Puja is another feat. South traditions relate to Lord Muruga( Karthik) or Lord Ayyappa. The shrine of Vaishnodevi in Jammu involves climbing a steep mountain of 14 kilometers bent and the mission seems accomplished once we see the holy pind. People hold allegiance and complete belief in miracles when life challenges them. Mythology is the treasure of Indian religion and must be given to our progeny.

Don’t make your hashtag so broad that it's hard to track.Hashtags should be 1. memorable 2. unique and 3. relevantFollow These Hashtag Best Practices 1. Be Mindful of Proper Hashtag Etiquette on Each Specific Network Instagram hashtags are often more geared toward topics or descriptions. However, Twitter hashtags tend to be more focused on a topic or conversation. Get familiar with how your specific audience uses hashtags on their networks. Then, participate in the conversation accordingly. 2.  Use Hashtags That Fit Your Brand It's tempting to jump on every hot trending hashtag out there. However, it's better to stick to using  hashtags that fit your brand. Use some common sense and ask yourself if a hashtag actually fits your image, message, content, and audience. For example, if your brand primarily serves customers over 40, then using a hashtag heavy on youth slang  will probably look awkward. Stick to the hashtags that fit your brand. #blogging #marketing3.  Create  Hashtags For Promotions Running a  promotion? What better way than to spread the word through hashtags. Here's one example for National Walking Day: Pro Tip: You can even give away  free swag to participants using the hashtag. 4. Keep  Them Short And Memorable Twitter only allows you 140 characters, so if your hashtag takes up too much room, people won't  want to use it because it will take away from their content and links. By overcrowding your tweet, you're going to lose attention, not grab it. Don't overcrowd your Tweet. You will lose attention. The same principle applies to other networks as well. Even on platforms where length isn't a concern, staying memorable is (and in that case, the shorter and snappier they are, the better). 5.  Capitalize The First Letter Of Each Word #whenyouputmanywordstogether in a single hashtag, the letters can become all jumbled up and difficult to skim through. #ButIfYouCapitalize the first  letter of each word, it's easier to distinguish each word and read at a glance. Hashtags are not case sensitive, so when  you combine multiple words together in your hashtag,  distinguish them by capitalizing the first letter of each word. 6.  Use Hashtags In Twitter Chats Twitter chats are online events centering an entire conversation around a hashtag. They're a great way to build relationships with your audience, and encourage engagement with a branded hashtag. Recommended Reading:  How To Use A Twitter Chat To Grow Your Audience And Gain Trust Avoid These Common Hashtag Mistakes Some of these tips are basic. Some you may never have heard of. But one thing is clear: If you make these mistakes, you'll miss out on the engagement you were hoping to get from your social messages. 1. Don't  Use Spaces Or Special Punctuation Use #SuperBowl not #super bowl. Your social networks  will only recognize the first word. Don't use  punctuation marks, but you can use numbers as long as you  complement  them  with a bit of text (like that #smmw16, for example). 2. Don’t Use The @ Symbol  In Hashtags Your hashtags aren't designed to tag your network's users.  So combining both  a hashtag and an "at" symbol  will only tag the person/user, and you won't send a hashtag at all. 3.  Don't Go Overboard With Too Many Hashtags #How #Annoying #Would #It #Be #To #Have #To #Go #Through #And #Read #Thirty #Hashtags #And #Try #To #Find #Out #What #It #Is #Saying. No one likes #hashtag #spam.4.  Don't Spam There are websites, brands, and individuals that use popular  hashtags and just throw them in  their social messages  with no context, just for the sole purpose of helping  other accounts to find  them. This plan may seem to work in the short term, but just when Instagram did a complete clean out of any account that seemed to be linked with spam, these individuals lost hundreds of thousands of followers. Their  hashtag plan completely backfired. 5. Make Sure Hashtags Mean What You Think They Do Pizza brand DiGiorno Pizza made a huge  mistake when they jumped on the viral hashtag  #WhyIStayed.  DiGiorno didn't look up the context of the hashtag. #WhyIStayed  pertained to people who were sharing their domestic violence stories to raise awareness after Ray Rice punched his then-financeà ¨ Janay Palmer. DiGiorno tweeted â€Å"#whyIstayed You had pizza†. Within a minute, the tweet had been deleted, but the damage had already been done. Pro Tip: Hashtags are often related to current events and cultural trends. If you're unsure what a hashtag might be referring to, take a few minutes to do some research. 6.  Make Sure Your Hashtags Work If there is a symbol or punctuation in or after the hashtag, you will break the hashtag. Grammar police beware. If  you want to post #I'mback, your hashtag will break after the I. You can tell where your hashtag broke when the blue line turns into black text. Take a look at "#it's" in this example of a Tweet scheduled with . The preview here shows that the apostrophe is breaking your hashtag. If there are letters or numbers before the hashtag, it will break it before it even starts. So if your hashtag is 123#abc, abc won't  link to a hashtag. If the hashtag is made up entirely of numbers, the hashtag will not hyperlink. But if you include  letters with  your numbers, the hashtag will work correctly. So  #12345 won't work. but #123abc will. This can lead to horrible problems for the person's identity whose is stole, as it can be a tedious task to try to track down the person who is pretending to be you. As student based marketing and research expands, so do the opportunities for people to steal all kinds of information from students who may not even know they are being tricked. Mary Shelleys Frankenstein Essay Example for Free

Mary Shelleys Frankenstein Essay In Mary Shelleys Frankenstein we are presented with more than just a story (which is how it began) but with a novel that raises deep philosophical questions. The tale of Frankenstein is much more than just a story; it is a cautionary tale which pays attention to moral values by presenting the reader with the character of Frankenstein and his toils. Mary Shelley is able to present us with more than just a horrific story but also with the moral ideas which form its fundamental basis. There are a variety of themes which run through the story of Frankenstein with the theme of friendship, nature, and most importantly responsibility. Victor Frankenstein was obsessed with creating life itself out of nonliving parts. This is shown where he refers to himself in third person saying, â€Å"So much has been done, exclaimed the soul of Frankenstein—more, far more, will I achieve; treading in the steps already marked, I will pioneer a new way, explore unknown powers, and unfold to the world the deepest mysteries of creation† (Shelly 49). Victor is so concentrated on the glory of being able to create a being from dead parts that he becomes consumed in his work and never even considers the affect this could have on society. He completely disregards this affect making this the first responsibility that Frankenstein failed to complete. He searched graveyards for material to fashion a new being, which he shocks into life with electricity. Although his creature was extremely big and being made from many different parts quickly combined together into a being was hideous. Once he had created this monster he states, â€Å"now that I had finished, the beauty of the dream vanished, and breathless horror and disgust filled my heart. Unable to endure the aspect of the being I had created, I rushed out of the room and continued a long time traversing my bed-chamber, unable to compose my mind to sleep†(Shelly 58). Frankenstein took no responsibility over his hideous creation here and instead decides to flee from the room in terror and leave the monster. This shows that he wants no part of what he created at this point so he is trying to escape the responsibility of creating the monster. Although inside he kno ws that he created the monster and anything the monster does will be on Frankenstein’s conscious. This leads to new events in the story that he feels responsible for. Frankenstein felt responsible for his younger brothers death when he realized that the monster he created murdered William. Frankenstein started to feel as if he himself had committed the murder because of his role in the monsters existence. Everything the monster did was Frankensteins fault because he was the creator. Rather than blame the monster for his downfall, Frankenstein blamed himself because he created the monsters life. He did not take actual responsibility for his brother’s death however because he did not want anyone to know about the monster. Frankenstein felt as if he murdered Justine as well as William because she was executed for a crime the monster committed of murdering William. If Frankenstein would have taken responsibility for his actions of creating the monster and told people what actually happened to his brother then Justine would not have been killed for a crime she did not commit. The chain of events that the monster set off with Williams murder began not with the monster, but with Frankensteins desire to create life. When the monster came to Frankenstein to plead his case and tell his story, Frankenstein realized that he had some obligation to the monster because he created it, in the same way that he bore responsibility for the monsters actions. Frankenstein was no longer simply responsible to humanity for the monsters actions, but he was also responsible to the monster for his happiness. Being the creator of a life was more responsibility than Frankenstein planned for when he was so eager to create the monster. The monster called upon Frankenstein to fulfill his obligation of providing for his happiness by creating a female companion to keep him company. Out of his sense of obligation to his creation and out of fear for his family (which the monster threatened to harm if Victor did not make a companion), Frankenstein agreed to make the female monster. His responsibility to his creation carried greater weight than the idea of his responsibility to humanity for the actions of the original monster and the new one he agreed to create. He hadnt yet realized the full weight of responsibility he would bear for the actions of both monsters. Before Frankenstein could marry Elizabeth, he had to complete his obligation to the monster so that he could be completely rid of him and the responsibility for his actions. As a result, Frankenstein postponed the wedding and took a trip to England to work without the danger of being discovered by his family because he had still not told anyone about the monster that he created and actually to responsibility for its actions. His obligation to the monster was not only to ensure the monsters happiness, which Frankenstein felt obliged to do as the monsters creator, but also as a way to protect his family from the monsters vengeance. Before he completed the female monster, Frankenstein realized the weight of responsibility he would bear if together the two monsters destroyed any other human life or reproduced, and the thought was just too much to bear. Rather than deal with the responsibility for two hideous, superhuman creatures, Frankenstein would rather deal with the wrath of one, so he destroyed his work on the female monster. This kept him free from the enormous feeling of responsibility of any actions of the two monsters. Frankenstein was responsible for Henrys death at the hands of the monster, and this grief rendered him ill for a long time. Frankenstein is once again in the position he found himself with William and Justines deaths. He didnt murder Henry, but his friendship with Frankenstein made Henry susceptible to the monsters wrath because he used Henry to get back at Frankenstein. Although the Irish magistrate acquitted him, Frankenstein knew that he was responsible for Henrys death because he had d efied the monsters wishes and the monster repaid him by killing his friend. The monster then did exactly as it said it would if Frankenstein did not create a companion for it and went to kill his fiancà ©e Elizabeth. Frankenstein, feeling responsible for Elizabeths death as well, vowed vengeance on the monster. The only way to absolve his responsibility for the monsters actions was to kill him, so thats what Frankenstein set out to do. He was responsible for the monsters creation and its actions, and he planned to be responsible for the monsters destruction as well which would free his mind from any new struggles. Frankenstein has already lost all of the friends that he was close with and really lost everything he has dreamed of at the hands of the monster. He believes without his friendships he has nothing to live for except the destruction of the monster. Friendship is important throughout the novel because it is the goal of Walton, the narrator, as well as the monster Frankenstein created. Loneliness and isolation are major conflicts throughout â€Å"Fr ankenstein†, and in this novel they motivate the monster to turn to destruction. The first sight of the theme of friendship we see is how Walton longs for a friend to share his excitement over the voyage to the North Pole. He is separated from his sister, whom he may never see again, and he has no one to buoy his courage or steady his heady excitement. Walton writes, â€Å"I have no friend, Margaret: when I am glowing with the enthusiasm of success, there will be none to participate my joy; if I am assailed by disappointment, no one will endeavor to sustain me in dejection†(Shelly 19). Friendless in the cold, white blankness of Archangel, and preparing to sail into the vast and unknown frozen arctic, seems a desolate situation for Walton. He feels the need of someone of his same intelligence that he can share his thoughts with so that the friend could keep Walton positive when he feels as though failure on his journey is near. Without a friend Walton is just a lonely being among others that cannot sustain his need for a friend to help him find a bit of lig ht in the dark days of his voyage to sooth his soul. â€Å"Frankenstein† also uses Natural beauty as well as friendship for a soothing influence on the characters of the novel and it is an important part of the Romantic influence. This appreciation of beauty in a novel so filled with brutality seems an odd contrast, but it is part of what makes this story a Romantic piece. On Frankenstein’s trip back home he was anxious about the changes in his homeland since he had been away for six years, so he spent a few days resting in a small town and letting the landscape of his country ease his worry. â€Å"I remained two days at Lausanne, in this painful state of mind. I contemplated the lake: the waters were placid: all around was calm; and the snowy mountains, ‘the palaces of nature’, were not changed. By degrees the calm and heavenly scene restored me, and I continued my journey toward Geneva† (Shelly 76). The familiar landscapes, which seemed timeless when compared to the span of human life, calmed his worries. Nature makes us feel small and unimportant because we last such a short time in comparison to the mountains, rivers, and trees around us, so whatever we are experiencing must be miniscule as well. Gazing at the calm and relaxing place is helpful to ease the mind of struggles and to calm the mind. In conclusion, the theme of responsibility proves to be the most important in the novel â€Å"Frankenstein†. Although Frankenstein himself does not take responsibility over his action of creating the monster until it has destroyed almost everything he loved. If he had taken this responsibility from the beginning he could have avoided the tragedies that brought him into a depression. The only things that could help him through this terrible time would be friendships or nature. The fact that he lost all of his friendships through the destruction of the monster that he had not taken responsibility for led Frankenstein to have to find peace within nature. Camel Advertisements :: essays research papers

Camel Advertisements   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  It’s no big secret, the producers of the Jerry Springer talk show knew exactly what would happen when they put the Ku Klux Klan and the Black Panther Party on the same stage. The two groups started fighting and much of the nation tuned in to watch it. In the same manner, Camel Cigarettes Company released an advertisement that parodied that kind of TV program. The advertisement, titled â€Å"Bizarre Bigfoot Love Triangle,† shows the kind of scene that would be typical in a Jerry Springer episode. The characters consist of Bigfoot in the middle, two women fighting with bouncers attempting to hold them back, a host who pretends to look confused, and a cheering audience. â€Å"viewer discretion advised† label that is put on Camel advertisements. This is also a parody in itself of the new rating system that has evolved for TV, movies, and music recently. One of the abbreviations listed is BR which stands for â€Å"Big Ratings,† another comme nt that applies to Jerry Springer.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Anybody who has seen â€Å"Jerry Springer† knows the true reaction of most of the audience. Many people think that the show is funny, outrageous, and sometimes obscene. Sometimes, it is even considered comical, and that is what this ad is doing; it is appealing to people who are familiar with Jerry Springer and his show. When people see this ad they immediately think about the show, and that is what makes it work. It has little to do with the cigarettes; and except for the fact that Sasquatch is smoking one, there is no relation between the Jerry Springer show and the experience of smoking Camel cigarettes. There just isn’t a correlation. One thing it could be implying, however, is that if one smokes Camel cigarettes, that person will have scantily clad women fighting over him.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  As for the target audience, it is directed primarily at men who like to watch or see stuff like the Jerry Springer show. In reality, this includes the age group that are younger than 18. In fact, this age group is indeed a big part of the target audience whether or not cigarette companies would like to admit. Many teens like Springer’s show and since this ad is similar to that, it causes the reader to be amused. In a way, this amusement causes the reader to not think about all the negative aspects of smoking.

The Study Of Nanoscience And Nanotechnology Developments Environmental Sciences Essay

Interest in the issue of safeguarding the ecological environment has steadily increased in recent decennaries. Parallel to this involvement, some companies in assorted sectors have increased the degree and quality environmental information communicated to investors and stakeholders in developing a new sort of revelation, environmental revelation[ 1 ]. Several research workers have focused on the inducements for houses to set about voluntarily unwrap information on their environmental public presentation. Research on the issue have focused on different facets of this revelation as its impact on stock monetary values, outlooks of investors and their information demands, appraisals of concern hazard and impact on the cost of capital and the grounds for such revelation and the schemes pursued by houses. The bulk of surveies on environmental revelation are made in developed states like Canada, the United States, England and Australia, but what about the utility and relevancy of information environmental context of an emerging market? It is progressively common to hear the footings nanotechnology nanoparticles, nanostructures, etc, in mundane conversations, but for most people is still hard to conceive of these words out of context of scientific discipline or scientific discipline fiction[ 2 ]. However, the impact is undeniable and the survey of nanoscience and nanotechnology developments will hold immense impact on societal, cultural and economic life of all of us daily. Furthermore, the positive scenario presents the great benefits that will convey nanotechnology in the countries of wellness, nutrient, energy, environment, electronics and telecommunications, etc like C nanotubes can be used in golf nines for strength and elation, nanosilver is used as an antimicrobic agent in socks, and clay nanoparticles mean that beer can be packaged in plastic.[ 3 ] But nanotechnology besides brings many hazards with it ; environmental and wellness jeopardies and this should be disclosed to the populace so that they can take portion in the determination doing associating to the usage of this engineering and be able to forestall themselves from the possible jeopardies of nanotechnology and supply solutions to cut down these jeopardies. Some of the possible hazardeous belongingss of nanomaterials are that they might ‘penetrate the blood-brain barrier every bit good as the blood-lungs barrier. ‘[ 4 ]Hazards like these give us all grounds to fear about jobs like ‘asbestos 2.0 scenario, in which a considerable figure of merchandises incorporating nanomaterials might hold to be recalled from the market. There is already some grounds that certain nano tubings might hold belongingss similar to asbestos. ‘ Therefore, one can non be excessively certain for how long market participants, particularly consumers, will be ready to accep t populating under this Damocles ‘ blade of uncertainness. ‘[ 5 ]‘More specific safety concerns include most notoriously the impacts of nanosilver ‘s powerful antimicrobic consequence on ecosystems, and the possible asbestos-like effects of certain signifiers of C nanotube in the lung. ‘[ 6 ]But the problematic inquiry is that whether we are ready to accept the advantageous nanotechnology with all its disadvantages and sick effects. And are we prepared to battle the ailments of nanotechnology particularly when the degree of certainty required to take action is really high. This is so because the harmful impact of the nanomaterials has non been wholly established to everyone ‘s satisfaction. In this brief research, we try to seek whether the current Torahs plenty to cover with the jobs posed by the usage of nanomaterials or do we necessitate nano Torahs to cover with the unanticipated possible menaces. We besides discuss effects of nanotechnology and speak about the function of public engagement in nanotechnologies and how it can assist work out the conflicting visions for nanotechnology and sustainability. The purpose of this research is to measure the importance of the function of public engagement in sustainable nanotechnology development. The survey will besides accomplish the undermentioned aims Basic apprehension of nanotechnology Professionals and cons of nanotechnology Comparisons of policies and ordinances of nanotechnology of UK, US and China The importance of function of public engagement in nanotechnology Science and engineering brings both the benefits every bit good as losingss for the society and environment. The importance of this survey is that it helps measure how public engagement can assist cut down the negative impacts of scientific discipline and engineering in the society and environment. The survey will seek and reply the undermentioned research inquiries:What is nanotechnology What are its possible benefits and jeopardies? What is the importance of public engagement in the sustainable development of nanotechnology? The research is based on the aggregation of secondary informations. The information is extracted from a assortment of articles, diaries and books. Secondary research means that the information is gathered from publications, literatures, broadcast media and other non-human beginnings. The method used here for research is qualitative.Chapter 2NanotechnologyNanotechnology – a signifier of molecular technology – promises important societal benefits. The term â€Å" nanotechnology † encompasses an emerging household of heterogeneous engineerings including â€Å" nanosciences † and â€Å" nanotechnologies † enabling the use of affair at the atomic degree ‘ .[ 7 ] Nanotechnology is the new developing field of unifying scientific discipline and engineering. It is believed by its advocates that nanotechnology or ‘Nano ‘ ‘has the possible to alter the economic system and the criterions of life. ‘[ 8 ]It is seen as agencies to ‘longer, healthier life with riddance of life threatening diseases. ‘[ 9 ]‘Nanoscience is the survey of the cardinal rules of molecules and constructions with at least one dimension approximately between 1 and 100 nanometres ( one-billionth of a metre, or 10-9 ) , otherwise known as the ‘nanoscale. ‘[ 10 ]Called nanostructures, these are the smallest solid things possible to do. ‘[ 11 ] Nanotechnology is the ability to step, see, manipulate and industry things normally between 1 and 100 nanometres. A nanometre is one billionth of a metre ; a human hair is approximately 100,000 nanometres broad. In 2007, the planetary market for goods integrating nanotechnology was 147 billion. Lux Research undertakings that figure will increase to $ 3.1 billion by 2015[ 12 ]. Nanoscience can be described as those who study constructions or objects with at least one dimension in the nanometer graduated table. The analysis of these constructions includes the word picture of their belongingss ( whether mechanical, electronic, optical, magnetic, etc. ) ; the survey of interaction may hold with other nanostructures, with electromagnetic moving ridges, etc. , and the description of phenomena that occur at this degree[ 13 ]. On the other manus, nanotechnology corresponds to the proficient capacity to modify and pull strings affair to develop functional constructions and devices with dimensions below 100 nanometers, for possible technological applications. For illustration, a construction typical of the devices produced by the microelectronics industry current would be 100s of times larger than a nanostructure with dimensions below a few 10s of nanometres[ 14 ]. There is certain grade of singularity in these nano atoms and the scientists use this singularity to develop merchandises. Even though the nanotechnology is still on its research stage there are many articles/applications utilizing this engineering available in the market, such as miniaturized nanoscale detectors, and devices for screening DNA molecules, pigments, glare-reducing coating for spectacless and cars, organic visible radiation breathing rectifying tubes used in laptop computing machines, cell phones, and digital cameras, featuring goods, cosmetics, stain-resistant vesture, and cosmetics, sunblocks. From the environment position point this engineering is both advantageous and disputing. The benefits include ‘remediation, monitoring, and green production. For illustration, field trials indicate that Fe nanoparticles can be used to clean up dirt by neutralizing contaminations such as polychlorinated biphenyls, DDT, and dioxin. Possibly the greatest promise that nanotechnologies hold for the environment, nevertheless, may be the mode in which they could basically alter the manner goods are manufactured. Traditional fabrication requires big sums of natural stuffs bring forthing waste and risky by merchandises in the procedure. Nanotechnology allows for edifice from the underside up utilizing merely those molecules that are needed for the merchandise, thereby extinguishing waste at the beginning. ‘[ 15 ] Sadly plenty even though nanotechnology is positively touching are modern lives in legion ways really small is known about the jeopardies of this engineering. The jeopardies are chiefly related to the usage, industry and the disposal of merchandises prepared from nanotechnology. The informations associated with these hazards is really minimum and is n't easy available for the populace. Many feel that the ‘sheer assortment of the applications, belongingss expressed, paths of exposure and agencies of disposal make it peculiarly disputing to place, estimation, and pull off any hazards posed by nanotechnologies. Knowledge of the chemical belongingss of a substance when in majority may non assist foretell how that substance will act at the nanoscale. For illustration, aluminium is inert when it takes the signifier of a sodium carbonate can, but is extremely explosive in nanoform. ‘[ 16 ] The exceeding features of nanomaterials, jointly with the wellness and environmental jeopardies, ‘create what the Twenty Seventh Report of the UK ‘s Royal Commission on Environmental Pollution ( RCEP ) refers to as a ‘control quandary ‘ to which there are no simple and straightforward solutions. ‘[ 17 ]A The state of affairs becomes even worse because of the fact that we are non cognizant of all possible jeopardies which these nanomaterials are capable of doing and therefore no ‘appropriate hazard direction government ‘[ 18 ]can be established. ‘The hard inquiries are non about theA legitimacyA of modulating on the footing of safety, but about theA acceptabilityA and theA certaintyA of the hazard. Safety concerns about nanomaterials by and large include inquiries about the ability of substances at the nanoscale to get the better of some of the organic structure ‘s natural defense mechanisms, such as tegument, lungs, or the brain/blood barrier, and their possible to prevail in the environment. ‘[ 19 ]‘More specific safety concerns include most notoriously the impacts of nanosilver ‘s powerful antimicrobic consequence on ecosystems, and the possible asbestos-like effects of certain signifiers of C nanotube in the lung. ‘[ 20 ]A But there is still an on-going argument on jeopardies versus the benefits that this engineering brings with it. Although the Royal Commission on the Environmental Pollution ( RCEP ) is of the position that ‘the bing ordinances have the capacity to cover with the apprehended hazard associated with the nonomaterial, the job is that they do non adequately do so. ‘[ 21 ]Today nanotechnology is deriving a batch of attending and therefore it is really of import to pay attending to its social dimensions. Even though nanotechnology have found their manner into the bing ordinances it is still of import to ‘modify some ordinances within bing models to reflect the jeopardy presented by free nanoparticles and nanotubes. It has been recommended by the RS/RAEng that all relevant regulative organic structures review the capacity of bing ordinances to protect worlds and the environment from possible jeopardies associated with the usage of nanomaterials. ‘[ 22 ] Although it is felt by many that to a big extent the bing ordinances are adequate in integrated nanomaterials and the jeopardies caused by them but still there are some loopholes in the system. The averment that the current existing ordinances are adequate to integrate nanomaterials may be due to the fact that we are still incognizant of the possible dangers and menaces caused by these stuffs. This raises the inquiry that whether these ordinances are capable of accomplishing a nice degree of safety? Harmonizing to the RCEP study ‘nanotechnologies are covered by a complex set of bing regulative governments in the Fieldss of consumer, public wellness and environmental protection. ‘[ 23 ]However despite these regulative governments they still sometimes fail to account for 100 % safety. For this ground the RCEP came up with the Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemical Substances or REACH. This has brought with it a immense alteration in the methodological analysis of covering with chemical substances. REACH does non incorporate anything specific refering nanotechnology ; it applies to new and existing chemicals and their usage, import and industry. Under this statute law it is mandatory for everyone covering with chemicals ; the makers, importers and other users to vouch that the chemicals used or manufactured does non negatively concern human wellness or the environment. It makes enrollment a compulsory demand for those covering with chemicals. This helps in obtaining relevant information about the chemicals being dealt with by the makers or the importers, giving the European Chemicals Agency an chance to measure and look into chemicals. This manner the activities that are harmful for the human wellness and environment can be singled out and can be restricted. REACH helps in advancing informed, transparent and unfastened decision-making, and provides a advanced and flexible regulative model. However, its relevancy and application to nanomaterials is limited. While REACH is puting its accent on the metric tons of chemicals being released, we fail to gain the injury caused by them at nano degree, such as ‘concerns associating to the inspiration of C nanotubes are non related, as such, to the measure of their production. Nanomaterials are evidently less likely to run into a tunnage threshold because, for any substance, there will be many more nanoparticles to the metric ton than larger atoms. ‘[ 24 ] Although one might reason that these ordinances can be applied to all harmful substances irrespective of their size or signifier but it is besides true that for such ordinances to go applicable the injury should be apparent on a really big graduated table to present possible menace to human life and the environment. It is merely so that the usage of those peculiar categories of nanomaterials will be classified as unacceptable and banned by the competent governments, which is practically about impossible.Professionals AND CONS OF NANOTECHNOLOGYScience and engineering are clearly societal existences by the fact that they belong to the same society. However, persons of the society have absolute right of oppugning on the benefits or negative impacts a peculiar innovation or development engineering could hold on society. Therefore, possible developments like nanotechnology or any new engineering that comes on the market are evidently susceptible to such appraisal. There are many illustrat ions of engineerings with good repute beginning subsequently on nem con being rejected, and frailty versa. It is in the current epoch the mass media can be constructed to be the Judgess of possible injuries or benefits of new engineerings. The chief job frequently viewed on the topic of unfavorable judgment is to acquire the public create their ain thought to happen the balance between the pros and cons[ 25 ]. This has happened historically with applications in the field of energy atomic, with the usage of assorted types of radiation, and more late with development of genetically modified beings, cloning and technology, merely to call a few.ProfessionalsThe possible application countries in which scientists say nanotechnology will impact positively are: Storage, production and energy transition, Increase in agricultural productiveness and pest sensing, Wastewater intervention and air pollution solutions, Diagnosis, monitoring and remedy of diseases systems drug disposal, Processing of nutrient and other consumer goods, New stuffs for assorted industries ( fabrics, automotive, building, picture, athleticss ) , General development of nanoelectronics, optoelectronics and bioelectronics and much more.ConEric Drexler in his book â€Å" The Rise of the machines to make † was the first to convey to the cognition of the general populace an overview of this new molecular engineering[ 26 ]. That describes non merely the tremendous capacity and possible nanotechnology, but besides the impact it may hold on the Fieldss medical, environmental and economic, every bit good as the hazards and frights associated[ 27 ]. However, many surveies are still seeking to find the impact of the nutrient produced from these GMOs in the wellness of consumers or environment in the short and long term. These ruinous visions about the possible negative deductions of developments in nanotechnology have non stopped the immense investings economic assistance for research in nanoscience and nanotechnology by big transnational companies in all industries and public in developed states. Unfortunately, it besides spends big sums of money to analyze the possible applications of Military nanotechnology. With horror we hear about arms biological / chemical computerized sufficiently intelligent devices little to avoid sensing, â€Å" smart † arms to kill merely soldier enemies and non guiltless people, etc. As we have seen, nanotechnology has a character genuinely multidisciplinary, with many possible application Fieldss for their development ( wellness, communications, ecology, nutrient, military, etcaˆÂ ¦ ) . So if we assess their impact on human activities as diverse, it is non we can non generalise and utilize the good-bad duality for making[ 28 ]. We realize that all the possi ble utilizations and hazards unwanted potency of nanotechnology are straight related. It is obvious that big corporations seeking to retrieve their investing and multiply in the shortest clip possible regardless of possible negative effects the engineering may hold on consumer and worker wellness or the environment[ 29 ]. The fact is that consumer ends up being a surety of large companies. For the state of affairs seems more awful and a grade of cynicism, so does with military applications in which the side that develops engineering will last no peculiar usage to their advantage to rule his opposition. However, due to the rapid development of scientific and chair a small the great duty of scientists to society, we can state that sometimes they are unable to spot in the short term possible negative impacts or that could hold applications in the hereafter their surveies, particularly when it comes to basic scientific discipline research or cardinal. The job with nanomaterials is that their dimensions are similar to some biological molecules and so they are really much capable of interacting with the biological molecules. These nanomaterials can travel within the organic structure of populating beings including worlds and can traverse cell membranes and reach the blood and variety meats like liver and bosom of the life organic structure. The indissoluble nanoparticles pose a greater menace to the human organic structure as they can lodge with within the organic structure for a longer clip. The nanoparticles which are inhaled by the human organic structure have the inclination of attaching itself to the lungs and thereby travel to assorted other variety meats and even damage the fetus in instance of pregnant adult females. These inhaled nanomateirals might take a toxic signifier within the human organic structure and cause lung redness and other jobs. Although the nanoparticles are used in drungs to move as a drug bearer and present more drugs to the mark cells but sometimes it becomes really difficult to separate the toxic atoms from the remainder, illustration the nanoparticles have the potency to traverse the blood encephalon barrier and present the drugs straight to the encephalon. However in stead of the limited information available about the sick effects of these nanoparticles it is rather possible for them to be toxic to the encephalon. The information on the side effects is scarce, it is expected to be much worse than what is known besides the effects are dependent on a scope of factors like age, unsusceptibility, presence of other pollutants, wellness jobs etc. Apart from the above discussed sick effects its sad to describe that there are about no publications on the sick effects of nanoparticles on animate beings and workss in the environment. Owing to the nature and inclination of the nanoparticles to attach with the cells and cross cellular membranes it can non be denied that they cause some serious harm to the works and carnal life along with human life. ‘Persistent indissoluble nanoparticles may do jobs in the environment that are much greater than those revealed by human wellness appraisals. ‘[ 30 ]CONCLUSION- ARE THE METHODOLOGIES AVAILABLE TO ASSESS THE HAZARDS ADEQUATE?With respect to this inquiry the Scientific Committee on Emerging and Newly Identified Health Risks ( SCENIHR ) is of the sentiment that although the bing methods seem appropriate but they are decidedly non adequate to turn to all sorts of environmental menaces. ‘More specifically, the manner of bringing of the nanoparticle to the trial system shoul d adequately reflect the exposure scenarios. Extra trials may be needed. Besides showing the dosage of exposure in footings of mass alone is non sufficient ; it besides needs to be expressed in footings of entire surface country, figure of atoms, or a combination of the two. The bing methods used for environmental exposure appraisal are non needfully allow. Therefore, the current hazard appraisal processs require alteration for nanoparticles. ‘[ 31 ] Besides harmonizing to SCENIHR despite the fact that there is an increasing focal point on the nanotechnology there is still ‘insufficient cognition and informations refering nanoparticle word picture, their sensing and measuring, the destiny ( and particularly the continuity ) of nanoparticles in worlds and in the environment, and all facets of toxicology and environmental toxicology related to nanoparticles, to let for satisfactory hazard appraisals for worlds and ecosystems to be performed. ‘[ 32 ] The SCENIHR commission was of the position that there are certain positions that need to be filled for an improved hazard appraisal for the merchandises and these include the word picture of mechanics, dynamicss, production and preparation of the nanotechnology and nanoparticles. Besides data on the toxicokinetic informations to place the mark variety meats and to determine the effects of the nano sized atoms on them. Harmonizing to the commission it is besides of import to hold full information of the occupational exposure and other possible wellness jeopardies on the workers who are involved in managing these nanosized atoms.

ZTBL is working continuously to fulfill and satisfy the market requirements, keeping pace with emerging technologies in the field of Agriculture Sector and satisfying customer’s needs .ZTBL understands and believe in the importance of its customers and fulfillment of their needs. ZTBL is constantly adopting different strategies that aim to support and reinforce its competitive position. As jobs in today’s dynamic organizations have become more complex, so every organization needs to have well trained and experienced work force to perform the activities that must be done. As the requirements for jobs are changing very fast, the importance of employee’s education has increased . When jobs were simple and easy to learn, there was little need of employees to upgrade their skills. Traditionally, the aim of training and development has been to ensure that employees can effectively accomplish their jobs. But today , the business environment has changed, with intense pressure on business firms to stay ahead of the competition through innovation and re-invention. By definition training and development refers to the process of obtaining and transferring knowledge, skills and abilities needed to carry out a specific activity or task. Training is basically the process of increasing the knowledge and skills of an employee for performing current job given to him or her. It is a short term process when new employees are selected, placed and introduced to a new organization, they must be provided with training facilities so that they can be able to perform their jobs efficiently and effectively. Employees who are trained regularly are will motivated, well mannered and have enhanced confidence and self esteem. In short, training and development prepare and enhance employees’ knowledge and skills enable them to adopt new technology, the changes that are happened or going to happen inside the organization and working environment. The right employee training, development and education and the right time provide big payoffs for the employer in the form of increased productivity, contribution, knowledge and loyalty. Human Resources are the most important and valuable assets for each and every organization, with Machine, Materials, and even money can do nothing without human power. According to Abiodun (1999) training is a systemic process of development of knowledge, skills and the altering behavior of employees in a direction that will achieve organizational goals. Adeniyi (1995) submitted that employee training and development is an activity that can significantly contribute to the overall the effectiveness and profitability of the organization. Oribabor (2000) says that the aim of training and development to develop competencies such as technical , conceptual and managerial advantages for the furtherance of individual and organizational growth, also Isyakn (2000) identified that this process â€Å"training and development† is a continues one. Among other school that has highlighted the significance of Training and Development are Akintayo (1996), Graig (1976) and Oguntimehin (2001). They have postulated the functions as follows : Increases productivity improves skills and knowledge, improve the quality of work, enhance the use of tools and machines, reduces absenteeism, turn over, reduces waste, accidence and other over head costs, expel out dated skills, method, technologies and capital management etc. Misko (2008) identified that where learning become integrated into work place practices, firms are more likely to be innovative, extend learning and reward employees.

Brief History Of HBL Commerce Essay

Brief History Of HBL Commerce Essay Stragtegic Human Resource Management helps an organization achieve productivity and effectiveness, by sharing the overall vision of the organization, sharing goals and objectives, and making sure that Human Resource is not just a department, but the whole organization speaks of HR as the core division, which means that organization is employee centered. Strategic HR changed a number of things in HBL. It updated the way plans were made, shifting to strategic plans, from a one-man show to bringing everybody on board, encouraging idea generation and sharing proposals, different departments sharing their plans of what to look for in the coming year and democratic decision making by appointing a Strategic Planning Division and appointing member from the Board of Directors that goes through each plan and then the CEO communicating the approved plan to the departmental heads. By this, the plan became not just an objective, but more of a bible. At HBL, after the privatization, a number of i nitiatives were taken, from right sizing and getting rid of lethargic employees, to introducing golden handshake schemes, from moving to performance management system to inducting young blood that brings in creative ideas. Concepts like employee engagement and job rotation became part of the policy, organization-wide rewards programs were introduced. An inevitable change in culture was also accomplished, it from the seniority based to performance based culture. Overall structure of the organization was also made flatter, removing additional levels and bureaucracy. INTRODUCTION TO HBL It is the prime Bank in country established in 1941 having a registered head office in Karachi. It was nationalized in 1974, but recently on 26th February 2004 it has been privatized by Government of Pakistan and is taken over by Aga Khan Fund for Economic Development (AKFED). They acquired 51 percent of shares of HBL. It is one of the largest Banks of Pakistan with 1439 branches, having total assets o f Rs. 1,139,554,000, 5 million total number of customers helping in generating Rs 13 million profit currently.
